Volunteer Training

September 23rd & 24th - TRAINING DATES FOR VOLUNTEER DISASTER CASE WORKERS SET Mark your calendars now for Volunteer Disaster Case Worker training on Thursday, September 23 (all day) and Friday, September 24 (half day). Volunteer Disaster Case Workers are needed to help victims of an emergency/disaster in two ways: 1) through carefully listening to clients needs and 2) connecting them with volunteer agencies that may be able to help them meet and answer their most immediate needs (generally done through phone conversations and the internet). These case workers provide a single point of contact for referrals for individuals and families who, in a time of great stress and duress, are trying to return their homes to a livable condition.

Volunteers serve through the Wisconsin VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster) Region IV Long Term Recovery Committee. Region IV covers Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties. Volunteers must be willing to meet in person with clients at least once; locations for specific counties cannot be guaranteed.

Training is mandatory to volunteer in this capacity as a Disaster Case Worker. Training location will be announced. Those who have volunteered in the past find this opportunity one that holds great meaning – one where volunteers are able to witness first hand the positive results of their time and skill commitment.

WISCONSIN VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVE IN DISASTERS TRAINING

Volunteers needed to help flood victims. For most of us the floods have come and gone, but there are hundreds of our fellow citizens still coping with its effects. Those who are left are often those without adequate insurance, who lost jobs because of the flood, or who are elderly or disable. The Wisconsin Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (WiVOAD) and your county emergency government are still working to help those victims.

In order to help the remaining victims, each county has organized a Long Term Recovery Committee and each of theses committees is seeking volunteers to speak to victims and evaluate what they need. Volunteers are given a cell phone allowance and mileage expenses for their assistance. To help the victims you must take a FREE two day training class.

  • Two day FREE Case Management training

  • Location, 750 Windsor Street, Sun Prairie, WI
  • Must provide your own transportation to and from class or we may be able to arrange car pool
